South Floral Park is an incorporated village in Nassau County, New York. In the 2020 census, the village's population was 1,741. It is located inside the town of Hempstead and was originally called Jamaica Square.

On the 4th of July in 1643, a tribal chief put his mark on the deed of land that would become Elmont. He negotiated with a group of English colonists and Reverend Richard Dalton for the purchase of the Hempstead Plains.

The treaty stated that the land was to be enjoyed by the settlers forever, freely, firmly, and peacefully. The purchase included parts of present-day Valley Stream, Rosedale, Laurelton, Bellerose, and Springfield Gardens.

It was divided among 66 of the original settlers, two of whom were brothers Thomas and Christopher Forster. They named their part of the land purchase Foster's Meadow. It was a flat, green field great for farming and raising sheep. Soon after, the brothers sold off portions of the land to some farm families.

In the 1800s, German farmers journeyed to Foster's Meadow to work the vast farmlands. The community's population soon grew. Further growth was evident with the construction of the original schoolhouse in 1865 on Elmont Road. As enrollment increased, some children went to Belmont Blvd. School, now known as Clara H. Carlson.

In 1925, the community was incorporated as the Village of Jamaica Square. The incorporation effort was due to the residents' wanting a local government to rule on local issues. Until its incorporation, the village was mostly dirt roads and farmland. William J. Ruppert was the village's new mayor. The residents then agreed to rename the village of South Floral Park in 1931.

South Floral Park made several historical milestones over the years. By 1990, the village's first woman mayor, Arlene McMullen, was elected and held office until 2002. In 2002, South Floral Park made history a second time with the election of Angel Soto, the village's first Hispanic mayor. Then in 2010, Geoffrey N. Prime made history again when he became South Floral Park's first black mayor.
